Overall, it actually looks to be a bit of a disappointment compared to the - class-leading, at least when it was new - old one.

Oooh, the new three year old Mondeo that looks just like the old one with the new corporate front grafted on.
Exciting!
The old model had become too big for its market and I can't see how doing more of the same is going to make a difference.

Indeed—particularly as the new one has apparently sacrificed what has always been the Mondeo's party piece - the fact that it's probably the best car to drive in its segment - for the sake of a slightly more relaxed drive. The non-luxury large family car market is pretty bloody small these days, and any car that hopes to do even decently within it, needs to offer more than simply being a 'good all-rounder'.
(Interestingly, this new Mondeo is - I believe - the first Ford sold in Europe since One Ford came into effect, that's largely been developed by Ford US. It's based on the old European car, obviously, but all the work done to turn it into this new model was carried out there.)
